Here I am golf junkies waiting for the day that I consistently play this wonderful game like I have college degree and a brain in my head and not like a kindergarten dropout. I was deep in south jersey baby! Latona golf course in buena nj. This course is a hidden gem in the south N.J. area. The par for the course is 35 because it is a 9 hole course with a slope of 122. the total length is 3,165 from the back tees. the signature hole at Latona golf course is #7/#16. It is a tour level par 4 which measure 450 yards from the back tees (only tees I am concerned with due to my delusions of grandeur) . The tee shot makes u come out of a tunnel of trees that probably need to be cut but I like the challenge. If your tee shot makes it out of the tunnel you will have to poke it up a slight hill. You want to be on the left side of the fairway to have any shot at the green. The hole dog legs right down and then back up to the green which is sloped from back to front with noticeable undulation guarded by bunkers on the right, left and behind. If you make par on this hole you my friend are making waves.
the greens at latona are not that fast and they roll true as long as our peers have fixed their divots watch the undulation because i will turn your putts. The Fairways are distinct and you will 90% of the time get a nice tight lie. I have played there at least 15 (it is my practice ground) times and never had a suspect lie from the fairways. The rough is just that you will have to hold the club lightly and take an extra club to get it to the desired location. The bunkers are fairly well maintained and numerous around the greens and are usually below the the putting surface. Fairway bunkers are there but a non-factor put it this way if you land in one you should probably play the lottery that day. They work hard to maintain the course there is someone out their tending to the fairways and the greens rain or shine. For the price of 16 to walk or 25 to ride you cannot beat this course it gets a 3 stars from me. I will see you out there hit them straight or with a slight draw.
